Naked and Jo In-sung is not something I can picture.
What I can picture is a naked Song Seung-heon or Kim Ji-hoon or hell, even Rain.
Back to the story. For the new Korean Brokeback, “Frozen Flower,” (쌍화점), Jo In-sung will strip down to reveal a naked backside for “art.” The fact some skin will be shown is causing a stir among netizens.
What’s the big deal? We already see half-naked male hot bodies everywhere. Is it because this is going to be a gay love scene? What about the boy-on-boy action in the Antique trailer?
To compete, we expect that Jo In-sung will be stepping up on the workouts and asking Rain for dietary advice (insert “chicken breasts” joke here).
Directed by Yoo Ha (Dirty Carnival), “Frozen Flower” (쌍화점) is set in the historical Goryo era where Jo In-sung plays a bi-sexual warrior who helps chase the gay king’s loneliness away (played by Joo Jin-mo). Song Ji-hyo plays the Queen.
“Frozen Flower” is expected to hit the theatres in December 2008.

The soon-to-open movie “Frozen Flower” is a collaboration once again between Jo In Sung and Director Ryu Ha of the 2006 movie “Mean Streets”. And in this last movie before enlistment into the army, Jo In Sung will challenge his limit and treat audiences and fans with a slew of sexual/homosexual scenes. Below is an interview with the man Jo In Sung where he revealed his thoughts on his upcoming movie.
Q1: “Frozen Flower” is about to hit the theatres, how are you feeling right now?
JIS: I’m anticipating the opening of the movie but at the same time, I’m also worried if it will be able to achieve box office success after opening.
Q2: You usually don’t appear in television shows and only participated once in MBC’s “Infinite Challenge” in the recent years. Is there any special reason why you decided to take part in that program?
JIS: I have also mentioned the reasons in the program. As the filming of “Infinite Challenge” took place at my house and it was brother Jung Joon Ha who called me to participate, I really find it hard to reject the invitation. Furthermore, senior Yoo Jae Suk was very court
Q4: Heard that you had rejected all other scripts while waiting for the script of “Frozen Flower”. You really didn’t even take a look at those scripts?
JIS: Yes I didn’t, because I feel that this is the basic courtesy. Since I have decided to play in “Frozen Flower”, I will not be able to play in other movies even if I came across one with an excellent script. Therefore, if I can’t play, I might as well don’t look at them.
Q5: You have repeatedly expressed that winning the “Best Lead Actor” award for “Mean Streets” gave you a lot of burden. Why is this so?
JIS: Because I feel that I still do not have the right to take this award. I’m only 28 now and still have a lot to learn, but this award will make me feel that I’m already there. I still wish to improve more, therefore am very pressurized after thinking about how others will look at me.
Q6: Jo In Sung is often being associated with the word “Kkotminam” (pretty boy), will this preconceived thought pose a problem to you?
JIS: I wish everyone will think of me as actor Jo In Sung and not Kkotminam Jo In Sung. This is one of the reasons why I chose to act in “Frozen Flower”. I hope that my acting career will be more exciting at the end than in the beginning.
Q7: There are a lot of sexual and homosexual scenes in “Frozen Flower”. Do you have any burden or regret as this is your first time attempting this kind of role.
JIS: The reason why I decided to act in “Frozen Flower” is to a large extent attributed to the trust for the director and this trust also gave me the confidence to play well in this movie. Director Ryu Ha’s “Marriage is a Crazy Thing” had a huge controversy over Uhm Jung Hwa’s sexual scenes. But in the end what is left behind in everyone’s memory is still the movie itself. Therefore, I do not have any burden playing in this movie, let alone regret because my co-star is Song Ji Hyo.
Q8: Heard that you are attempting to change your past image, why is this so?
JIS: I’m going to reach 30 pretty soon and am very curious how will I become after that. To plan for my future, I should challenge myself to new stuffs while I’m still young. Furthermore, I have already been in the entertainment circle for nearly 10 years and I want to present a different me in front of viewers.
Q9: You have not had any decent rumours since your debut, is it because you have not dated before?
JIS: Actually there were some, it’s just that I didn’t clarify them, because I believe that rumours are rumours, people might believe them in the beginning but the truth will prevail as time goes by. Of course I would like to date but compared to that, work always comes first. You can treat it as sacrificing love for work.
Q10: You will be enlisting soon, how are you feeling right now?
JIS: I can only confirm the enlistment after I have passed the examination, heard that it is going to be very tough. If I manage to pass it, I will likely enlist on the 19th of January next year, but I also wished to apply for a deferment because I still have to do promotions for “Frozen Flower” and also settle some work-related stuffs.
Q11: You will have around 2 years of inactivity after enlistment. As an actor, do you feel any pressure regarding this?
JIS: I feel that I have accumulated much experiences in the past 10 years and these experiences won’t disappear just because of this 2 years of inactivity. And furthermore, 2 years isn’t very long, the period between finishing “Mean Streets” and taking on “Frozen Flower” is also around 2 years. I will treat this 2 years as the preparation period for my next movie.
Q12: What kind of changes do you wish being in the army can bring to you?
JIS: I wish to learn more things. A large part of an actor’s acting is accumulated through experiences rather than being talented. Therefore, I will continue to learn as much as I can during this 2 years so that I can become a better actor after being released from army.
