Meisa Kuroki to play thief in return to TV work
ENTERTAINMENT APR. 16, 2013 - 06:40AM JST ( 8 )

TOKYO —
Actress Meisa Kuroki, 24, will play a thief in TBS’ new TV series “Take Five: Can We Steal Love?” (starts Friday April 19 from 10 p.m.). It will mark Kuroki’s comeback as an actress after she took a year off to have a baby girl last year with husband Jin Akanishi.
“Take Five: Can We Steal Love?” stars Toshiaki Karasawa and Yasuko Matsuyuki. It tells the story of five thieves whose mission is to steal money from other criminals.
The allure of Kuroki has not faded away even after she became a mom. Dressed in tight leather pants, she plays the role of American returnee thief. “To be honest, I think this costume is too visible for a thief to wear but I hope to create an ‘edgy Americanized’ character,” she said in comments to the media.
Kuroki is also appearing on TV in another role—in the NHK “Taiga” drama “Yaeno Sakura.”

Kato Miliyah has written a new song called “EMOTION“, which will be used as the theme song for TBS‘ upcoming drama, ‘Houkago Groove‘ (starts April 22nd).

Drama ‘Legal High’ to return with a 2nd season

As announced earlier this year, a special episode of Fuji TV’s lawyer comedy drama ‘Legal High‘ – starring Sakai Masato – aired this past weekend. At the end of the special, the producers revealed that the drama would return for a full second season this fall.
In the drama, Sakai portrays an eccentric lawyer named ‘Komikado Kensuke’ who has never lost a lawsuit in his career and boasts that justice can be bought by money. However, during the first season he gradually realized that this kind of justice isn’t what he really wants. He remembered what it feels like to fight for real justice and to never give up.
The overly serious rookie lawyer ‘Mayuzumi Machiko’ (Aragaki Yui), who ended up working as Komikado’s assistant despite his despicable personality, was the person who helped him remember those feelings. She learned a lot about what it takes to win lawsuits while dealing with his antics.
Of course both actors will be back to reprise their roles in the second season. There will be plenty of guest stars for each of the new cases similar to the first season.
Fuji TV is going to start airing ‘Legal High 2′ in October of this year.

Mitani Koki to film another single-cut drama starring Takeuchi Yuko

On April 14th, WOWOW announced that famed director Mitani Koki is working on another drama that will be filmed in one scene without a single cut titled ‘Daikuko 2013 (tentative)’ (lit. ‘Major Airport’).
‘Daikuko 2013′ is written by Mitani himself and is going to be a comedy about a family that gets stuck at an airport due to bad weather and the multiple problems they face there. WOWOW already aired a similar drama project of Mitani titled ’short cut’ in 2011. It was a very short scale project with a main cast of only three actors, but this time the story is set an airport and will feature an ensemble of 12 actors, including actress Takeuchi Yuko as the protagonist.
Mitani commented about this project, “I wanted to do something even more difficult than last time. This time we are indoors and we’ll get to film at an actual airport, which means more space we can make use of. Furthermore there will be twelve people instead of three this time as well. As for the story, I’m aiming for much more depth and more complex, intertwining relationships between the characters. I think this could make a great drama.”
Takeuchi is playing a member of the groundcrew who gets dragged into the problems of the family. Other characters include Namase Katsuhisa as a reportage writer with money problems, Toda Erika as a mysterious woman, Odagiri Joe as a fake pilot, and Kagawa Teruyuki as the father of the family who holds a big secret. They will be supported by more actors such as Ikematsu Sosuke, Kajihara Zen, Aoki Sayaka, Ishibashi Anna, Ayata Toshiki, Komoto Masahiro, and Kanno Misuzu. All twelve of them will have to show great teamwork and professionalism in order to film the whole drama without having to stop the camera even once.
Mitani expressed about his lead actress Takeuchi, “From the time we already had together before I can tell that Takeuchi has an amazing power of concentration. I think she is an incredible actress who can seamlessly cover up various accidents and make her role even more interesting by doing so.” He continued, “Her character will be present all the time, which makes it the most difficult role of this drama. I thought that there would be no one else than Takeuchi who could play such a role. It sure will be a tough challenge, but I already know the more I corner her, the more she would shine, so I will try to drive her into a corner as much as I can.”
Takeuchi herself commented about starring in one of Mitani’s works, “It feels like the encounters of unfamiliarity (laughs). Right now I’m feeling like I’m going up a roller coaster. You’re gradually reaching the top and… you wonder what kind of scene is going to open up in front of you.” She confessed, “I can’t really imagine how this is going to work out yet. (laughs) I’ve never participated in something similar, so I don’t know how he is going to film it. However, I do know that I will try my hardest to keep up with him.” She added, “Mitani said that he is going to drive me into a corner. I wonder what I’m like when I’m driven into a corner, so I’m really looking forward to this.”
WOWOW has yet to reveal an exact date for the broadcast of ‘Daikuko 2013′, but it’s going to be sometime this year.

Nagabuchi Tsuyoshi to provide the theme song for Nakama Yukie’s new drama

It’s been revealed that singer/songwriter Nagabuchi Tsuyoshi’s new song, “Mirai“, has been chosen as the theme song for Nakama Yukie’s upcoming drama, ‘Shima no Sensei‘ (starts May 25 on NHK Sogou). Nagabuchi last provided “Yubikiri Genman” for ‘Gekai・Natsume Sanshiro‘ about 15 years ago in 1998.
‘Shima no Sensei’ takes place at a small school on an isolated island in Kagoshima, and portrays the lives of a teacher and her students. NHK producer Yashiki Yotaro explained his reason for asking Nagabuchi to provide the theme song, “During the ‘Kohaku Uta Gassen’ the year before last, I was touched when I learned about his strong passion for children’s education and that he was assertively acting towards it. Also, speaking of Nagabuchi-san, he is from Kagoshima where the drama is set. I definitely wanted him to make a warm theme song while recalling his youth.”
Nakama, who will be playing her first teacher role since ‘Gokusen‘, commented, “Right now, we are filming in the nature on an isolated island called Amamioshima. The lyrics and melody which portrays ‘future’ is perfect for this heartwarming drama that uses a calm and magnificent location.”
Nagabusa will release “Mirai” as his new single on May 22.

‘Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji’ to return with a 5th season this summer

Fans of the widely popular medical drama series ‘Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji‘ will be delighted to hear that Fuji TV has just announced that there is going to be a new season this summer.
‘Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji’ is set at an emergency ward and follows a team of doctors as they try to save as many lives as possible. This time the main cast will be slightly different due to the sudden withdrawal of actor Eguchi Yosuke, who had been portraying ‘Shindo Kazuo’ since the first season.
Actress Matsushima Nanako, who has also been part of this series since the beginning except for the second season, is going to reprise her role as ‘Kojima Kaede’. It’s her first drama starring role since ‘Kaseifu no Mita‘ (NTV) in 2011. Actor Sasaki Kuranosuke was already confirmed as a new addition to the main cast, while actor Tokito Saburo was approached after the withdrawal of Eguchi just before the start of the production.
DREAMS COME TRUE are once again going to write the theme song for the new season. The title for the song has yet to be announced.
The plot of the new season focuses on Kaede, who has become the chief of the medical staff of the emergency and critical care center at a university hospital. She has difficulties gathering a team of doctors around her and still lacks the confidence to be a leader, yet has to work under the pressure of the expectations of a university hospital. The only member of her team is emergency doctor ‘Honsho Masaharu’ (Sasaki), but one day the organ transplant specialist ‘Natsume Mamoru’ decides to become an emergency doctor and joins her team. This season is going to depict Kaede’s struggles as a doctor, medical chief and as a woman.
It will be interesting to see how this series can compensate for the loss of the character ‘Shindo Kazuo’, at least for this season. The expectations are high, since the previous four seasons never recorded average ratings of less than 19% and Matsushima’s previous drama engagement with a leading role reached ratings as high as 40%.
Fuji TV is going to start airing the fifth season of ‘Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji’ in July.

Kis-My-Ft2′ Tamamori Yuta to star in a live-action drama adaptation of “Pintokona”

On May 16th, it was announced that Kis-My-Ft2 member Tamamori Yuta will star in TBS’ upcoming drama “Pintokona” as the son of a noble Kabuki family. This will mark the first serial drama to feature the world of Kabuki, a Japanese traditional performing art.
“Pintokona” is a live-action drama adaptation of Shimaki Ako’s ongoing manga, which is being serialized on monthly Shoujo manga magazine “Cheese!” (Shogakukan).
Tamamori will play the protagonist named “Kawamura Kyonosuke”, who is born into a noble Kabuki family Kijima-ya. Tamamori said, “It’s such an honor to be able to play the world of Kabuki that has a long history of 400 years, in a drama.” After actually viewing a Kabuki play, he left the comment, “They had the power and presence beyond description. Now I’m even more interested in Kabuki, and I want to challenge on all kinds of things.”
Reportedly, Tamamori has begun practicing to play the role of a Kabuki actor. “I realized in person that it cannot be mastered in a day, as I have to use the muscle I usually don’t use, and have to be concerned about each of my actions,” he said.

One of the main cast members is NYC’s Nakayama Yuma. He will play “Sawayama Ichiya”. Though Ichiya is from a family with no relation to Kabuki, he still tries hard to aim high in the world of Kabuki using his own ability. Nakayama commented, “By learning about Kabuki, I hope I can come to know more about Japanese traditional performing art, as well as the pride of Japan.” As Nakayama is currently practicing for “Oyama” (male actor playing female roles in Kabuki), he jokingly said, “Since I’m consciously acting womanly in the way I walk or sit, I’m worried if I will be able to return to how I used to be after the filming ends.”
The heroine of the drama “Chiba Ayame” will be taken on by Kawashima Umika. She will be involved in the love triangle between those Kabuki actors. “I was amazed at Tamamori-san and Nakayama-san when they dressed in the costume with the Kabuki make-up. I can’t wait to see their Kabuki scenes in the drama,” Kawashima said.
Other cast members include Johnny’s Jr’ Matsumura Hokuto (as “Sawayama Shohei” who burns with jealousy toward Ichiya), and Jesse (as “Sakamoto Haruhiko”, the best friend of Kyonosuke), as well as Yamamoto Koji, Takashima Masahiro, Enoki Takaaki, Enami Kyoko, and Kishitani Goro. There is also a plan for real Kabuki actors to appear in the drama.
“Pintokona” is scheduled to begin airing in July.

2013-06-07 01:07:00

Yabuuchi Yuu's ongoing manga "Dolly♪Kanon" that is being serialized on Shoujo manga magazine "Ciao," will be getting a live-action drama adaptation, and the main cast members were revealed on the July issue of the magazine that was released on June 3rd.
Dolly♪Kanon is the story of a junior high school student named "Okuda Soshi," who is the most handsome boy at the school. One day, because of an unexpected turn of events, he happens to disguise himself as a girl, and sing songs. He then ends up becoming a super idol named "Kanon" after his performance video is posted on the internet.
The roles of "Okuda Soshi/Kanon" will be played by rookie actress Takahashi Haori (16), and the heroine, "Shishido Kokone" whose hobby is to write and compose songs, will be played by Ayano Mika (19). "Kokone" is the one who makes "Soshi" dress in female attire, and also produces for him.
Takahashi who belongs to STARDUST Promotion, made her debut back in 2008, and grabbed lots of attention when she appeared on TBS drama, "Perfect Blue" as a younger sister of the protagonist. This however, will be the first time for her to take the lead role. She commented, "I was full of anxiety to play a boy, since I'm still inexperienced in acting, but the joy of being able to participate in this work was bigger than that♪"
On the other hand, Ayano made her singing debut last year, and she also made an appearance on Miike Takashi's film "Aku no Kyoten." Ayano commented, "At first, I was not too sure about the way Kokone talks, but before the filming begun, I had a talk with the director, and it allowed me to get Kokone's image down. Hence, I was able to feel at ease during filming."
One of the highlights in the drama will be when "Soshi" transforms into "Kanon", and the viewers will also be able to watch the performances of songs like "Kanon", "i・Love・U", and "Ganbare☆Cinderella." Those songs were originally written by Yabuuchi in the manga, but for the drama, they will add melodies into them. Reportedly, there will also be music videos for the songs which are to be released through the official site.
The live-action drama adaptation of "Dolly♪Kanon" will be directed by up-and-coming director Yuki Saito, and it will be a total of 8 episodes (7 main episodes + spin-off). The drama will be included in the magazine's appendix DVD "Ciao Ciao TV!", starting from the August issue (to be released on July 3rd.). It will also be distributed through the drama's official site, as well as through the Bandai Channel starting on July 23rd.
