Jang Nara cancels press conference in China
2006-01-02
Singer/actress Jang Nara, 25, cancelled a press conference on Dec. 31 in China
where she was scheduled to announce the release of her second album,
entitled 'Kung Fu'. Jang notified organizers of her decision shortly before the
conference was to begin and left the venue.
Jang's agency said the singer called off the conference because its organizers used
photographs of her without permission to promote a commercial store.
The Chinese media reported that Jang "unilaterally called off the press conference
and left, simply wishing reporters a happy New Year when they asked for an
explanation for her move."
Jang's agency, Warner Brothers, said Jan. 2 that it unsuccessfully attempted to
reach Jang's father for comments, and will soon announce its official stance on the
incident.
The agency said both the singer and her father, who left for China two weeks ago,
could not be reached because their mobile phones are turned off.

Jang Na-ra to Release Special Album in Chinese

Singer Jang Na-ra will release a special edition album recorded in Chinese on March 21.
Entitled 'Flying High' the album includes songs which were featured in a Chinese
drama in which Jang starred, and comes bundled with her 'Kung Fu' album
released in China last year, a DVD of six music videos from her first and second
Chinese albums, and a mini photo album with new pictures of her.
Her agency, Warner Music, said that the album is a gift for her Korean fans to
express her regret for not actively performing in Korea because she has focused
her efforts on China. "The title 'Flying High' which Jang herself created, expresses
her hope of becoming a towering star in Asia," it added.

Singer/Actress Jang Na-ra to Give Comeback Concert

Hallyu star Jang Na-ra will give her first comeback concert in a year and two
months. She will showcase her second Chinese-version album, whose title song
is "Kungfu," at the Grand Hall of Chung-Ang University's Art Center in Heukseok
-dong, Seoul on Apr. 13 at 5:00 p.m. in celebration of the album's release in the
country.
She will also appear on "Show! Music Tank," a program of KMTV, a music channel,
on Apr. 14; and join the recording of SBS TV's program "Kim Yun-ah's Music
Wave" on Apr. 18.
Jang had so far stayed in China to act in a Chinese TV drama entitled "Princess
Diaoman" and promote her first and second Chinese-version albums. It will be
her first appearance onstage as a singer in the country since about a year and
two months after she was engaged in promotional activities for her fourth regular
album in the country for about a week in mid-February of last year.
In the upcoming showcase concert, Jang will sing a total of seven songs, such
as "Kungfu" and "Meng Feixiang" from her second Chinese-version album that
was released in Korea under the title "Bisang" in late March. At the concert, Jang
will perform with dancers with whom she is working together in China.
An official from Jang's agency said, "The upcoming showcase concert will be
attended by journalists and album production agency officials from China. Jang
will also invite university presidents from 12 countries from around the world and
hallyu experts to a seminar entitled 'Forum for the Globalization of Hallyu through
Asian Cultural Community,' which will be held right before the concert."
Jang is also enjoying high popularity in China as a TV actress thanks to the high
viewer ratings of the drama "Princess Diaoman," in which she starred. Some
Chinese news media outlets praised Jang as an actress with higher popularity
than famous Chinese actress Zhao Wei, who starred in the TV drama entitled "Princess of the Emperor."

Jackie Chan Invites Jang Nara to Charity Concert

World-renowned film star Jackie Chan has officially invited hallyu star Jang Nara to his upcoming charity concert.
On its official homepage, Jang's agency said on June 1, "Jang Nara has been invited
by Jackie Chan to his charity concert entitled 'Jackie Chan and His Friends' to be
held in Nanjing, China on June 24."
The agency also said, "Jackie Chan has asked Jang to sing a duet, the theme song of
the film 'The Myth,' that day, which Jang has gladly accepted."
Meanwhile, Jang returned home from China on May 30 to go to the polls for the local
elections on May 31. She will leave for China again on June 4. She will attend a
ceremony to celebrate the broadcast of the drama "Diaoman Gongzhu (The Unruly
Princess)" on Shanxi Satellite Broadcasting Station's channel. The event will be held
in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province.
Jang will also record a special program hosted by BTV in Beijing.
